I also want more people to keep in mind that a reason why some countries might have “low assault rates” that don’t reflect reality is because 1. There’s a shame surrounding the assault, 2. Misogyny from society, family members, and even internalized within the victim themselves 3. It’s virtually impossible to report in some countries because officers will shrug it off 4. Most SA is done by someone the person knows so they might feel guilty about reporting it, and so much more. There are also other factors like income, social standing, the halo effect, family dynamics, purity culture, etc. NEVER look into a country and take their assault rates at face value, always expect them to be higher than whatever is actually reported to police. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be safe anywhere you go and carry protection, from pepper spray or a taser, to a g*n if your country allows it, or brass knuckles. There are also statistics out there saying that women are more likely to intervene during an assault than men so do not feel safe around male strangers and expect them to step in if something happens to you. It sucks having to take all these precautions but please be safe, genuinely.
It's so sad that there's such stigma around being a victim all the fault and blame gets placed on them from authorities to even family sometimes 😕 but aw the tips are nice thanks I really should start bringing protection wherever I go at least smth in my car
